Built in 1861 for Eli Slifer, a prominent Pennsylvania political and business figure, the Slifer House stands as a commanding Victorian-era landmark on the banks of the Susquehanna River. Designed by noted Philadelphia architect Samuel Sloan, the residence featured a brick square main section, wrap-around porches, two-story wings, and a striking four-story tower.
