Built in 1861 for Eli Slifer, a prominent Pennsylvania political and business figure, the Slifer House stands as a commanding Victorian-era landmark on the banks of the Susquehanna River. Designed by noted Philadelphia architect Samuel Sloan, the residence featured a brick square main section, wrap-around porches, two-story wings, and a striking four-story tower. Wikipedia Bold in design and prestigious in intent, the house was erected on the historic “Delta Place” tract once a sprawling 1,150-acre farm  and embodied the aspirations of its time.
